There are times when I wish that I lived in a place untouched by modern day, like the village in the last dream of Akira Kurosawa's movie Dreams. A place with no name, no electricity, no vehicles, but cows and horses and lots of nature. Sometimes I simply feel that I wasn't made for living in a city, surrounded by concrete buildings, noise and neon lights and commercials telling me to buy this or buy that in order to be happy. Sometimes I truy believe that I would be much happier if I was surrounded by nature, birdsongs, a starry sky and a few cows to hang around with. I really believe the cows would be much happier too.

Anyway, the village in Kurosawa's movie has always looked like a wonderful place to live in and recently I found out that the it actually exist. The Daiō Wasabi Farm (大王わさび農場, Daiō Wasabi Nōjō) is a wasabi farm established in 1915 and located in Azumino, Nagano Prefecture near the center of Honshū. It is (unfortunately) a popular tourist spot because of its beautiful watermills and for the river that runs through it. Still, it's definitely a place I would like to visit in the future.

Dreams by Akira Kurosawa is one of my favorite movies and I recommend you watch the dream about the village below. In case you choose not to I will summarize it with the following words from the main character in the movie: ”Some say life is hard. That's just talk. In fact, it's good to be alive”.
